There is a growing need to provide quality child care to children with special needs. Technical assistance services are available for child care providers to answer questions pertaining to inclusion of children with certain disabilities, necessary accommodations to be made to programs to admit a child(ren), etc. To assure that children with special needs receive the quality of care that they deserve, legislators designated certain standards necessary for child care providers to adhere to. Two Acts, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), were created to establish requirements so that every child, even those with special needs, could have the opportunity to receive quality child care. Several programs offer services to help providers accommodate children with special needs. The Maryland Infants and Toddlers Program provides early intervention services for children age birth to two. Project ACT (All Children Together) works to include children of all abilities in community settings.
